Do ducks go after fishing lures?

I saw these ducklings and the mother ducks by some fisherman on a pier. The one made a grab for the guy's lure, and started this shrill squelling (it had been hooked) and the mother duck started honking like crazy....it was actually hilarious. The fisherman cut his line and eventually the duck came unhooked itself. I think maybe these wild ducks were used to people feeding them or something, I've never seen them go for lures like that before. Is this normal?
