Tmj pain any suggestions?

ever since i had my wisdom teeth out 2 years ago, i think the oral surgeon hypextended my jaw because the right side of my jaw gets swollen from time to time and the pain is just unbelivable... i know that theres no actual treatment for my tmj, but what are some other remedies i can do to relieve the pain. ive taken pain relievers, use a night guard at night, use ice and heat... or is this pretty much it?? does an mri of the tmj show anything?? in case you didnt know tmj is short for temporomandibular joint
