Was life easier before than it is now?

Do you think that life in the past (decades ago, like 1950) was easier than it is now? Some say the world was much safer and there was a sense of community among people. Things wasn't even as redicuolously overpriced than they are now. Has the living become easier or harder? Or the same? What do you guys think?
